About the Role
Global News, a division of Corus Entertainment, has an exciting opportunity available on its award-winning news team as Managing Editor for Calgary. The successful candidate will be required to work primarily weekdays, with weekend and evening work as required by our dynamic news environment. Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
The following is a paraphrase of the primary functions, but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to this position:
•Working closely with the News leadership teams in Calgary, Lethbridge, and Edmonton, and reporting into the News Director of Newsgathering in Toronto, the Managing Editor for Calgary will:
•Oversee the daily editorial agenda for broadcast and online, placing an emphasis on producing original, enterprise content
•Drive the daily story meetings and assigning process
•Coordinate daily and future editorial plans with the Global News network news deskc entral assignment, Global Edmonton, Global Lethbridge and local radio station hub.
•Ensure proper editorial resources are assigned to meet the needs of our local news platforms
•Monitor story development throughout the day and provide guidance to local reporters, digital journalists and online journalists on story direction and storytelling techniques
•Vet reporter scripts and online content as requiredeach day.
•Develop and maintain a high standard of news production that includes effective writing, editing, and shooting
•Supervise all reporters, photographers and digital journalists in Calgary and oversee various operational requirements pertaining to performance, labour relations, scheduling and timesheets
•Work with the marketing department to ensure proper promotion of daily news coverage
•Coordinate resources, human and technical, for all special projects and requests
•Other duties as required

About You
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
•An extensive background in broadcast news with proven experience in news management. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in managing both broadcast and digital news platforms.
•An amazing attitude that will engage and motivate teams
•A post-secondary degree in broadcast journalism or a related field
•Demonstrably strong leadership and interpersonal skills
•A track record of creative storytelling with strong production skills
•Must be able to adapt under pressure and be able to work in a fast-paced environment
•Working knowledge of digital tools and technologies, including all social media and related applications
•Must be able to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily deadlines for online and broadcast
•Working knowledge of the Calgary and Southern Alberta news market
•A valid driver’s licence
