Manager, Programming and Content – CPAC

The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canada’s window on parliament, politics and public affairs. As Canada’s only national, bilingual media outlet focused exclusively on politics, we are unique in the Canadian media landscape. We are looking for a Manager, Programming and Content to oversee the planning, development, and execution of content across all our platforms.

The Role

The Manager, Programming and Content will be responsible for leading the development and production of CPAC’s original programming. Working alongside the Executive Producer this individual will liaise between editorial and production staff overseeing day-to-day production while also developing and planning large scale special projects. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about politics and public affairs, fluently bilingual, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic that enables them to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Primary Responsibilities

•Oversees development and production of CPAC’s original programming in both official languages;
•Leads the multiplatform content strategy for all CPAC programming;
•Acts as the day-to-day editorial liaison between the Executive Producer and production staff;
•Ensures accurate, real-time context keys on live and recorded programming;
•Works with the Executive Producer to establish and communicate the editorial direction of upcoming events to all departments;
•Mentors all production groups (producers, reporters, editors, ENG camera, studio crew) on storytelling and storyboarding with a view to ensuring the highest level of production value;
•Monitors adherence to journalistic, production and technical standards
•Represents CPAC’s editorial interests at pool meetings along with resources team;
•Oversees the execution of large-scale events in production control room and acts as an editorial liaison between the Executive Producer and production staff;
•Work with the Executive Producer to conduct program reviews;
•Other duties as required.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills and experience required)

•University or college degree in journalism, telecommunications, radio/television production, or equivalent experience;
•Ten years’ experience in television production;
•Minimum five years’ experience in a supervisory position;
•Has exemplary editorial judgement;
•Is able to provide coaching, training and mentorship to producers and technical crews;
•Able to work exacting standards, including critical deadlines under high stress and tight deadlines;
•Identifies, designs and contributes to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve corporate processes and systems;
•Exceptional communicator, both verbally and written;
•Fluently bilingual, in English and French;
•May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends;
•Note some minimal travel may be required.
