Executive Producer – CPAC

The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canada’s window on parliament, politics and public affairs. As Canada’s only national, bilingual media outlet focused exclusively on politics, we are unique in the Canadian media landscape.

The Role

Based in Ottawa and reporting to the President and CEO, the Executive Producer is responsible for the editorial vision for all CPAC programming across linear, digital and social media platforms. A motivational and innovative leader who conceives, plans, organizes and assigns resources for all of CPAC’s programming across all platforms, the ideal candidate recognizes the importance of a public service broadcaster whose primary role is to provide Canadians with access to the workings of Parliament. This individual is a creative and dynamic professional journalist who is passionate about politics and current affairs and embraces CPAC’s policy of editorial neutrality.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Oversee the production and development of all programming across all platforms, including: daily shows, specials, live current affairs, documentaries, podcasts and new shows or content.
•Adhere to CPAC’s programming principles and editorial policies and editorial neutrality in the preparation and presentation of all programming content;
•Lead, mentor and guide all production and on-air staff and encourage innovation and creativity.
•Provides editorial staff with regular feedback and participates in the performance review process.
•Maximize CPAC audiences on all platforms by using analytics to position content strategically in order to increase CPAC’s audience reach.
•Review and develop programming policies and procedures to ensure that CPAC’s programming strategies are delivered in the most efficient cost-effective ways possible.
•Ensure that all programming is compliant with CPAC’s condition of license and legal obligations.
•Ensure that departmental expenses remain within budget.
•Collaborate closely with communications team to ensure the most effective dissemination and promotion of CPAC content.
•Participate in the formulation and implementation of long-term strategic goals for CPAC.
•Participate in recruitment, interviews and selection of staff, and approve all editorial hires.
•Creates an environment that recognizes, supports, respects and welcomes diversity of employees.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills and experience required):

•Degree in Journalism or seven to ten years’ equivalent professional experience at a senior management level.
•Highly developed programming experience, proven abilities in production and development of audio, video and social media content.
•Strong knowledge of politics and public policy.
•Must be able to work unusual shifts, including weekends and evenings when required.
•Ability to problem solve and direct staff under high level of stress.
•Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure in recorded and live programming.
•Is able to communicate effectively (orally and written) in English and French.

This is a full time, regular position with competitive benefits. The successful candidate must be fully vaccinated and will be required to work primarily in the Ottawa office.
