Director, Regulatory

The CMPA is Canada’s leading trade association for independent producers, representing more than 350 companies engaged in the production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films and digital media.  This position, located in either Ottawa or Toronto, is responsible for managing the CMPA’s regulatory files.  The Director will monitor existing and proposed broadcasting and telecommunications legislation, regulation and other related public policy initiatives, advise senior CMPA staff on the implications of those initiatives and provide recommendations on appropriate responses and/or courses of action.   A key part of the Director’s role will be drafting CMPA interventions and proposals, and working with the CMPA’s senior staff appearing to present these interventions.  The Director will also support the policy work of the CMPA senior staff and help support other priority initiatives, as required.

As the successful candidate you possess a university degree in business, communications, arts, social sciences or law.   A relevant graduate degree would be considered an asset.  You have a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in the regulatory field, including but not limited to the policy, decisions and operations of the CRTC, and you possess exemplary writing skills.  You have a proven background of building and maintaining effective working relationships with government officials, volunteers and staff, and have successfully managed the work of external firms and consultants.  You have superior communication skills (oral and verbal) in English, with French considered an asset.   Some travel is required.
