Your role

Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance and Strategy for CBC/Radio-Canada French Services, you will lead Radio-Canada’s Competitive Market Intelligence department. The department is responsible for tracking trends in the audio, audiovisual and digital media content industries in Canada and internationally, and analyzing,
contextualizing and reporting on those trends in the form of findings, learnings and recommendations for
internal decision-makers.

More broadly, the department’s mission is to increase knowledge and provide Radio-Canada decision-makers
with prospective analyses to support strategic decision-making. Market intelligence activities extend beyond content companies. They also cover technology and media solutions providers, regulatory bodies, media production funding providers, the ad revenue and commercial distribution industry, and more.

Responsibilities

Work in tandem with French Services’ Strategic Development group to provide outside insight into best practices for developing and executing Radio-Canada’s strategic priorities and action plans
Lead a range of complex projects to recommend and validate conceptual business models for new strategy development
Conduct ongoing intelligence on business strategies and processes in competitive media sectors
Analyze and benchmark best practices, assessing business opportunities for Radio-Canada decisionmakers
Regularly communicate with the Senior Executive Team to offer perspectives, provide background on competitive environment analyses and influence future decisions
Design custom analyses and provide complex advice/information having a major impact on strategic and financial decisions. Document processes and ensure coordination with executive directors in other divisions
Supervise the production of all Competitive Marketing Intelligence publications, including trend reports and weekly intelligence summaries. You will be responsible for planning, organizing, designing and executing the publications as well as presenting them to management. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, conducting analyses on activities and developments in television, radio, on-demand video and audio, news, entertainment content (including kids and youth), social networks, digital media, media technology, content marketing and other related sectors. In addition to identifying global trends and best practices, you will enrich your analysis with perspectives and recommendations for the relevant leadership teams
Provide periodic analyses, such as business-modelling analyses and positioning recommendations on specific topics that might have immediate implications for CBC/Radio-Canada French Services
Promote Radio-Canada’s competitive market intelligence expertise externally at media industry events (talks, panels, presentations, assemblies, conferences, etc.)
Work closely with CBC/Radio-Canada English Services on joint market intelligence initiatives
Support the development of CBC/Radio-Canada’s three-year strategic plans with prospective analyses aligned with the organization’s priorities
Lead a team of senior advisors in charge of ongoing tracking, filtering and integration of data and information from a variety sources about industry and market trends in Canada and abroad
Prepare the annual Competitive Marketing Intelligence budget and track adherence to that budget throughout the year

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

University degree in a media-related field and/or in management or marketing
Ten or more years’ experience relevant to the job, along with strong knowledge of the media environment
Five or more years’ experience in strategic planning/intelligence
Solid understanding of the Canadian media industry, in both English- and French-language markets, and knowledge of the international media environment
Solid experience managing staff and coordinating multidisciplinary teams
Excellent judgment and high emotional intelligence
Advanced communication, writing and presentation skills
Superior ability to communicate complex information in summary form
Experience communicating with senior executives
Very good influencing skills
Strong ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate financial, audience and business data
Business knowledge of current media industry audience-measurement data
Advanced strategic problem-solving skills
Ability to develop new ideas, innovative solutions and new partnership approaches
Strong ability to develop strategic marketing recommendations
Extensive knowledge of computer systems and software as well as the ability to use sophisticated internal and industry-relevant software
Ability to maintain and develop productive collaborative relationships
Ease in building networks internally and externally
Strong ability to work independently
Fluent bilingualism (English and French), spoken and written
Willingness to travel occasionally
