Responsibilities:
Assist Bureau Chief in managing all facets of day to day operations
Oversee work of Unit Manager
Exercising strong news judgement and a keen instinct to dig for stories
Assist reporters and producers with story approach and script structure
Plan news shoots and work with ENG crews in studio and the field
Maintain information flow within the Ottawa News Bureau
Maintain relationships and information flow with other bureaus, affiliate stations, DNS, Agincourt, other Bell Media properties as well as any external service providers
Supervise producers and chase producers in conjunction with the Ottawa Bureau Chief
Work extremely closely with National Assignment desk
Future planning for coverage of Ottawa events with network and station resources.
Communicate with the Unit Manager for technical requirements to support editorial needs
Co-ordination of breaking news coverage
Champion CTV News needs with the Parliamentary Press Gallery, Government Departments and other outlets
Work with engineering to identify production needs, find solutions
Manage editorial staff scheduling and rotations
Oversee tech staff scheduling and rotations
Coordinate travel
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Journalism degree or equivalent
Excellent knowledge of television production technique
Extensive knowledge of Canadian politics
Excellent knowledge of television news technology
Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
Excellent communication and writing skills
Ability to travel on extremely short notice
Strong team player and able to manage a team of people
Excellent knowledge of general current events
Bilingualism is an asset
Minimum seven years experience in journalism

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
