Associate Producer – CPAC

The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canada’s window on Parliament, politics and public affairs. As Canada’s only national, bilingual media outlet focused exclusively on politics, we are unique in the Canadian media landscape. We are seeking a dynamic journalist / producer to work as an Associate Producer, to contribute to our coverage of Canada’s democracy in action.

The Role

CPAC is seeking an enthusiastic and meticulous individual to join our editorial team. Based in Ottawa just steps from Parliament Hill, this is a great opportunity for a journalist/producer who welcomes new challenges and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The chosen individual will possess strong writing and production skills and a sound understanding of Canadian politics and public affairs. Bilingualism is an asset.

Primary Responsibilities

•Produces daily shows including Today-Aujourd’hui, capturing excerpts from scrums, press conferences, parliamentary committees and other highlights from the day in Canadian politics
•Produces and oversees all programming related to House of Commons and Senate committees. This includes tracking televised committees, editing and writing descriptions of committees and scheduling committees for air
•Edits the daily replay of Question Period
•Writes context keys and program descriptions
•Produces replay packages of public affairs programming, as required
•Assists in the production of conferences, debates, and specials, as required
•Works with the Executive Producer to ensure editorial content is vetted prior to distribution and meets CPAC’s production, journalistic and technical standards
•Maintains accurate activity logs and provides regular progress updates and reports
•Assist with diagnosing and resolving technical problems

Qualifications (knowledge, skills and experience required)

•A degree or diploma in journalism, TV production or related discipline and two years of comparable and relevant experience
•A seen interest in politics and the business of democracy
•A strong understanding of journalism practices and broadcast standards
•Excellent writing skills, including familiarity with Canadian Press style
•Possesses excellent research, writing and editing skills, with a high attention to detail
•Familiarity with video editing platforms and content management systems
•Initiative and ability to plan, prioritize and organize workflow
•Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
•Must be independent, self-motivated and self-sufficient
•Ability to work flexible hours and weekends as required
•Preference may be given to candidates who are fully bilingual in English and French
