Towards an Innovation Agenda for the Communications and Media Sector
The Canadian Chapter of the International Institute of Communications (IIC) will host its two-day annual conference at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa on November 16 and 17.
The Canadian communications industries face increasing changes in their technological and business environments. More recently, major regulatory changes have been introduced and a full scale review of Canada's cultural policies has been announced by the new government – one where "everything is on the table". This review and government policies in other areas will be shaped in large part by the government's plans to promote innovation - as evidenced by the renaming of Industry Canada as the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED).
The conference will bring together leading communications sector players to discuss developments and policies that influence innovation. Topics will include Cancon innovations, reliance on big data to drive innovation, developments in social media, news and other content aggregators, and the opportunities provided by broadband networks and applications that have become the central nervous system of our social, commercial, political and cultural lives.
