MONTREAL, TORONTO and VANCOUVER — Bell, Rogers and Telus all announced Thursday they have each signed reciprocal roaming agreements with AT&T to provide their respective business customers with seamless access to AT&T’s LTE-M network throughout the United States.

In the case of each agreement, a Bell, Rogers or Telus customer will be able to roam on AT&T’s LTE-M network across the US, and AT&T customers in turn will be able to roam on the LTE-M networks operated in Canada by Bell, Rogers and Telus.

In three separate announcements, the Big Three carriers all touted their LTE-M networks as the ideal platform for deploying low-power, wide-area IoT applications. In Bell’s news release, the company said large-scale IoT applications currently supported by its LTE-M network include asset tracking, fleet management, smart sensors, smart city applications and municipal water system management.

Roger said in its news release that in addition to supporting business customers, such as freight service companies needing to monitor their vehicles, LTE-M also enables consumer IoT applications such as wearables, monitoring and tracking solutions.

Finally, Telus’s news release listed smart cities, advanced logistics and agriculture as examples of low-power, wide-area IoT applications supported by its LTE-M network, in addition to IoT devices that are built to travel, such as health wearables and remote asset monitors.

Each news release included the same quote from an AT&T representative, tailored to each Canadian carrier’s announcement.

“More and more of our enterprise customers are launching IoT applications across international boundaries. Having access to the (Bell/Rogers/Telus) LTE-M network across Canada will help them simplify deployments and scale their North American IoT plans,” said Chris Penrose, president of advanced mobility and enterprise solutions for AT&T, in each carrier’s news release, respectively.
