Verizon, Ericsson, Qualcomm eclipse 1Gb download mark

NEW YORK - Verizon, Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies have surpassed the Gigabit speed barrier on 4G LTE in a lab trial.The companies said Monday that they achieved 1.07Gbps download speeds with commercial silicon and network infrastructure using the Qualcomm SnapdragonTMX20 LTE Modem, the first announced modem to support Category 18 LTE speeds.According to the press release, the industry milestone was achieved by using 12 simultaneous LTE streams, which allow for up to 20% increase in peak data rates and capacity with a corresponding improvement in average speeds.  Ericsson’s Radio System and LTE software, in concert with a mobile test device based...
